《保护研究》是一本关于历史和艺术作品保护的国际同行评审期刊。目标读者包括最广泛意义上的环保专业人士：各类文物的执业保管员、保护、文物和博物馆科学家、收藏或保护管理人员、保护教师和学生以及艺术、考古学、建筑遗产、材料史、艺术技术研究和材料文化等学科领域的学术研究人员。保护研究出版一系列主题的原创作品，包括但不限于：艺术品的检验方法、艺术材料分析的新研究、劣化机制、保护实践的进展、新的处理方法、陈列和储存中的保护问题、预防性保护、收藏品管理问题、保护历史和伦理、材料和工艺过程的历史。科学内容不是必要的，编辑鼓励提交实用文章、评论论文、关于最佳实践的立场论文以及收集和保存的哲学和伦理学，以帮助保持期刊的传统平衡。无论主题如何，常规程序的说明不被接受，除非这些程序导致足够新颖和/或具有普遍意义的结果。
