《分子医学趋势》的目标是促进具有不同背景和技能的训练有素的专业人员之间的交流,他们的共同目标是了解和解释疾病的分子基础,以期开展新的临床实践。《分子医学趋势》是为学生和专业人士提供的资源,他们的信息需求超越了传统的临床或科学分类。《分子医学趋势》包括关于疾病遗传基础的综述文章,但“分子”并不仅仅指DNA。遗传过程的诊断作用是明确的,但其他分子也为健康和疾病提供了主要益处:酶、抗生素、激素、金属、碳水化合物、脂类、维生素、合成的有机和无机聚合物。分子医学趋势讨论和评价了这些益处。此外,“医学”涉及一个重要的社会因素;分子干预引起了有争议的伦理、法律的和财政问题。所有这些问题都在《分子医学趋势》中以一种建立在25年出版《趋势》杂志经验基础上的风格得到了解决。
