《材料科学进展》发表了材料科学及其在工程和其他应用中的开发的最新进展的权威和批评性评论。《材料科学进展》综述的作者是材料科学领域的活跃领导者,在该综述领域有着良好的科学记录。重点放在该学科的基本方面,特别是那些涉及微观结构和纳米结构及其与性质(机械、化学、电、磁、光学或生物医学)的关系,包括凝聚相的原子和电子性质。同样理想的主题是热力学、动力学、机理和在固体、液体和其它凝聚相中发生的过程的建模;有助于从微观机制角度理解材料宏观特性的实验和模型;和其他应用中材料使用的理解。感兴趣的材料是所有形式的金属、陶瓷、聚合物、生物、医学和复合材料。手稿通常比那些专门发表研究论文的期刊要长。
