淡水鱼生态学出版了淡水环境中鱼类生态学的各个方面的原创贡献,包括湖泊、水库、河流和溪流。涉及行为、保护、发育、遗传学、生活史、生理学和宿主-寄生虫相互作用的生态导向研究的手稿是受欢迎的。涉及种群生态学和群落生态学的研究也很有意义,进化方法包括种群生物学、进化生态学、行为生态学和历史生态学的研究。讨论河口和近岸沿海地区溯河产卵和降河产卵物种生命阶段的论文,如果有助于对淡水鱼生态学的一般理解,则予以考虑。如果理论和模型研究产生可检验的假设,就像那些对渔业有影响的假设一样,它们是合适的。对已发表数据进行分析的手稿,如果产生了新的结论或综合,则予以考虑。该杂志发表文章、新观点和评论,偶尔也发表会议和研讨会的记录。
