《软体动物研究杂志》接受软体动物研究各个方面的论文。这些学科包括系统学、分子遗传学、古生物学、生态学、进化学和生理学。如果主题属于专业领域(如寄生虫学、神经生物学、生物化学、分子生物学),只要软体动物是研究的主要重点,而不是偶然或只是方便的实验动物,提交的材料仍将被接受。重点关注渔业生物学、水产养殖和软体动物害虫控制的论文,只有在软体动物生物学方面有重大进展的论文才能被接受。虽然鼓励发表系统性的论文,但只有当单个新分类群的描述包含一些“附加值”时,例如以解剖学或分布的新信息的形式,或者如果它们是在系统性修订或系统发育分析的背景下提出的,才会被考虑。
